National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur organised a Guest Lecture and an Industrial Visit to Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET) Raipur in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on 4th June 2025. This insightful session was organised as a part of World Environment Day Celebrations at NIT Raipur. The session was graced by the active participation of esteemed faculty members of NIT Raipur including Dr. D.C. Jhariya, Dr. G.P. Gupta, Dr. Debashisha Mishra, and Dr. Meena Murmu. The session aimed to raise awareness about the harmful impacts of single-use plastic, highlight the importance of its prevention, and promote sustainable practices through effective recycling and responsible waste management.

The session began with lecturer. Dileshwar Thakur delivering an introductory talk about CIPET, highlighting its motto, objectives, and its role in fostering skill development in the field of petrochemical engineering. He emphasized the institute’s commitment to making the youth employable and industry-ready. Mr. Thakur also discussed the various career avenues available to CIPET graduates, including sectors like automotive, aerospace, healthcare, electrical, and electronics. Additionally, he touched upon the design software used in the industry, such as CAD and CAM, which are integral to modern plastic product development.

He went on to stress the significance of plastic in everyday life, while also pointing out the widespread lack of awareness regarding its proper disposal. After the session, participants were taken on a guided tour of CIPET’s advanced facilities, beginning with the CAD, CAM, and CNC Lab. They then visited the Plastic Testing Centre, followed by the processing workshop. A key highlight of the visit was the twin-screw compounder machine, which is used to recycle plastic and plays a crucial role in CIPET’s broader goal of promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The visit concluded with a gesture of appreciation as the faculty members of NIT Raipur presented a memento to Dr. Alok Sahu, Director, CIPET Raipur. Dr. Sahu thanked the participants for being part of the experience and expressed his gratitude for their engagement.
