St. Thomas College, Bhilai, organized an insightful guest lecture under the joint initiative of the Department of Education and the Department of Sociology on the topic “Interlinking Culture,Socialization and Education in Shaping Human Behaviour and Society.” The session was delivered by the eminent scholar Dr. K. N. Dinesh, an expert in industrial sociology, criminology,and social research methods, dedicated to guiding the next generation of scholars.

The program began on a divine note with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcoming of dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Deepti Santosh, Convenor of the event. The presidential address was presented by Administrator Rev. Fr. Dr. P. S. Varghese, while the inaugural address was given by Vice Principal Dr. James Mathew and Dean of Academics Dr. Debjani Mukherjee.

In his lecture, Dr. Dinesh elaborated on the intricate relationship between society, theology, culture, religious ethics, value systems, and self-development. He explained that socialisation is a continuous and dynamic process that begins at birth. A child initially learns through physical and mental abilities, followed by the influence of family, peers, and later colleagues. He emphasized that society plays a significant role in shaping individual behaviour and also sets expectations regarding how individuals should act in different contexts.

The session effectively highlighted how education and socialisation work together in shapinghuman behaviour and building a balanced society. The lecture was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, where students actively engaged with the speaker.

The program concluded with a thoughtful reflection by Co-Convenor Dr. Reema Dewangan, who shared key takeaways from the session. Overall, the lecture was highly engaging and insightful,reinforcing the importance of education and socialisation in personal and societal development.
