National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur celebrated its 21st Foundation Day on 9th January 2026 and organised Shruti 25. Prof. N. V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur, was the Chief Guest of the event. Dr. Manoj Chopkar, Dean (Student Welfare), and Prof. Samir Bajpai, Head, Career Development Cell (CDC), also graced the event with their presence. All the HODs, faculty Members, staff, Alumni, students and Families were also present during the event.
After the formal welcoming of the guests, the lamp lighting ceremony was held. Dr. Chopkar, warmly welcomed the guests, dignitaries, and attendees on Foundation Day. He emphasized NIT Raipur’s transformation from GEC to a leading institute excelling in UG, PG, and PhD programs and highlighted advancements in teaching, innovation, and research under visionary leadership of Dr N. V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur.
Dr. Bajpai emphasised that the institution is renowned for its talent and progress in various fields. He said that the institution has fostered technical acumen and research skills among the students. He urged students to participate in extra-curricular activities organised by clubs and committees.
Prof. Rao highlighted the institute's journey of nurturing talent and achieving excellence. He praised the faculty and students for their contributions to technical advancements and solving real-world problems. Celebrating the institute's legacy, he urged everyone to embrace new ideas, work hard, and dream big. He extended his gratitude to the alumnus. He expressed pride in institute’s progress and thanked the academic community for their unwavering support in building a brighter future.
It was followed by the Award Ceremony. The Distinguished Alumnus Award was presented to Prof. Anurag Prabhakar Mairal (Alumnus of Chemical Engineering, 1990). The Lifetime Alumni Achievement was presented to Mr. Santosh Kumar Agrawal (Alumnus of Civil Engineering, 1975) and Mr. Sudhir Verma (Alumnus of Chemical Engineering, 1975). Mr. S.K. Agrawal, Alumini, 1975 batch expressed his gratitude towards the institute for honouring him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He encouraged students to carry forward the legacy. Further, awards were presented to students and faculties who had displayed their mettle in the field of academics and sports. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Suvendu Roop faculty in charge, Cultural comittee.
Next on the schedule were a dance performances by Nrityam- The Dance Club and musical night Shruti by Raaga - The Music Club of the institute as a part of Shruti 2k26. This program transcended boundaries and celebrated the diverse musical heritage of our nation by presenting a wide-ranging mixture of songs and melodies which re-established a sense of unity in diversity which is symbolic to India. The event brought a dynamic mix of genres spanning across Devotional songs, Retro and Rock music, sun raha hain na tu ,pareshan to an enthusiastic crowd. Numerous songs such as Pareshaan, Mere Dholna, Jaane jaan and Qayde se enriched the atmosphere with their radiance. The audience was completely mesmerised by the heart-touching melodies as they witnessed a soul-stirring performance.
