Asal Baat news.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur advanced the nationwide Swasth Nari Sashakta Parivar Abhiyaan with a series of health camps and awareness activities, reinforcing the campaign’s core message that healthy women form the bedrock of empowered families. The fortnight-long drive, launched on September 17 and set to culminate on October 2, has seen cross-departmental participation aimed at strengthening women’s health and family well-being.
On the sixth day of the campaign, the Department of Biochemistry at AIIMS Raipur, in collaboration with the Association of Biochemistry Clinical Welfare Society (ABCW), held an antenatal and neonatal screening camp at CHC Dharsiva Block, Raipur. More than 150 participants—including mitanins, trainers, health officials, laboratory technicians, expectant mothers, and new mothers—took part in the initiative.
Pregnant women underwent hemoglobin and glucose screening and received counseling sessions on maternal health. Faculty members led by Prof. (Dr.) Eli Mohapatra, Dean and Head of Biochemistry and President of ABCW, and Dr. Suprava Patel, Professor of Biochemistry and Hon. General Secretary of ABCW, stressed the importance of early detection of high-risk conditions such as hypertension, anemia, diabetes, congenital hypothyroidism, G6PD deficiency, and sickle cell anemia.
Simultaneously, the Department of Pediatrics, supported by the State Centre of Excellence for Nutrition, organised health awareness programmes at the Pediatrics ward. Nursing students staged street plays (nukkad nataks) on themes including antenatal care, institutional deliveries, maternal nutrition, and healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies. Students from the School of Public Health added depth with thematic presentations on maternal nutrition and calcium supplementation.
The interactive sessions drew strong community participation, with women actively engaging, sharing feedback, and seeking clarifications on pregnancy care, child nutrition, and postpartum practices.
Since its inauguration at AIIMS Raipur’s Rural Health and Training Centre (RHTC), Kurud, the Swasth Nari Sashakta Parivar Abhiyaan has evolved into a comprehensive campaign addressing maternal, child, and family health. The sixth day’s events once again underscored its guiding principle: “Healthy Women Are the Foundation of Empowered Families.”
