The Department of Liberal Arts at IIT Bhilai hosted an invited lecture by Dr. Maya Dodd of FLAME University, under its Intersections Lecture series. Speaking on “Locating a New Historiography for India: Digital Archives and Public History,” Dr. Dodd underlined the growing significance of digital humanities in India and its role in reshaping public history in an era of rapid technological change.

She stressed that digital archives allow historical repositories to move beyond physical confines and become participatory, people-centric platforms. By amplifying marginalised voices and enabling community-driven knowledge archiving, digital tools, she argued, can actively reconstruct the past while fostering inclusive remembrance.

Concluding her address, Dr. Dodd emphasised the need to decolonise knowledge production and create alternate archival practices anchored in community engagement. The lecture engaged with the importance of understanding the implications of the digital turn and how it enabled the archives to move beyond physical repositories and to become more people centric to not only engage with the past but to actively reconstruct it. The Intersections Lecture series at IIT Bhilai serves as a multidisciplinary platform for critical dialogue on the liberal arts and their evolving methodologies in contemporary scholarship.

भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (आईआईटी) भिलाई के लिबरल आर्ट्स विभाग द्वारा आयोजित इंटरसेक्शन्स व्याख्यान श्रृंखला के अंतर्गत 15 सितम्बर को फ्लेम यूनिवर्सिटी की प्रख्यात विदुषी डॉ. माया डॉड ने आमंत्रित व्याख्यान दिया। “भारत के लिए नई इतिहास-लेखन की खोज: डिजिटल अभिलेखागार और सार्वजनिक इतिहास” विषय पर बोलते हुए उन्होंने डिजिटल ह्यूमैनिटीज़ के उभरते महत्व और भारत में इतिहास लेखन पर इसके गहरे प्रभाव पर विस्तार से प्रकाश डाला।

डॉ. डॉड ने कहा कि डिजिटल क्रांति ने अभिलेखागार की परंपरागत सीमाओं को तोड़ दिया है और उन्हें अधिक जनकेंद्रित व सहभागी स्वरूप प्रदान किया है। अब अभिलेखागार केवल भौतिक संग्रहों तक सीमित न रहकर समुदायों के जीवंत अनुभवों और विविध स्वरों को दर्ज करने का माध्यम बनते जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने रेखांकित किया कि डिजिटल माध्यमों से हाशिए पर रहे समूहों और उपेक्षित समुदायों की स्मृतियों तथा अनुभवों को संरक्षित कर मुख्यधारा के इतिहास में स्थान दिलाया जा सकता है।

अपने व्याख्यान में उन्होंने डिजिटल उपकरणों की उस क्षमता पर विशेष बल दिया जो समाज को केवल अतीत को समझने में ही नहीं बल्कि उसे सक्रिय रूप से पुनर्निर्मित करने में भी सक्षम बनाती है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस तरह के सामुदायिक डिजिटल अभिलेखागार न केवल दस्तावेज़ीकरण का साधन हैं, बल्कि वे नए स्मृति-स्थलों का सृजन करते हैं और समाज को अपनी इतिहास-चेतना को व्यापक रूप से विकसित करने का अवसर प्रदान करते हैं।

आईआईटी भिलाई की इंटरसेक्शन्स व्याख्यान श्रृंखला एक बहु-विषयक मंच है जो लिबरल आर्ट्स के विविध पक्षों, उनकी शिक्षण पद्धतियों और समाज में उनकी प्रासंगिकता पर गंभीर विमर्श आयोजित करती है। इस श्रृंखला का उद्देश्य समकालीन सामाजिक और शैक्षिक जीवन में चिंतनशील दृष्टि और संवाद को पुनर्स्थापित करना है।
